Cape Horn Update

Hi all,

After a couple of days with quite some wind, the wind is now slowly decreasing. We're in the process of setting the royals and outer jib back up. The distance from noon to noon was a good 200 NM! Some pretty fast sailing :-)

The last nights everybody figured out that rolling on the waves requires special adjustments to almost everything. When I mentioned that we did only a bit of rolling in the 20 o'clocky some faces looked a bit disapproving at me. People experienced it differently. It affected a lot of the sleep, also my own. But still...it was just a bit of rolling.

Wait till we will be sailing into an area with no wind and proper high swell. The good thing is that we now already practiced with; stowing your belongings even more steadily away, really don't leave any utensils on the table during breakfast while you're getting your warm toast, put on your socks last to prevent sliding through the cabin, and don't fill glasses and cups to the rim....and many more things. All of this needs a bit of improving I would say.

In the daytime, we took the opportunity to pull out the storm sails from the lower forepeak, check them, and set them. It would be ok if they could stay in their bags for this trip, but it's good to know how to set them up and do a bit more prepping on them.

Course-wise we try to sail as much South at the moment. In not too long we'll sail into areas with less and various wind. Not the best, but we'll have to deal with it, try to still get as much South / Southeast as possible and then try to hook onto the Westerlies as soon as they show up again.
